There will be days when you just won’t have inspiration. And that’s ok. The best thing you can do with those days is do something else, go for a run or walk somewhere, be active to help both your physical & mental health. Then when you’re ready, sit down, put your thinking cap on and take a look at these sources:

You can’t use up creativity. The more you have, the more you use.

  1. Pinterest (www.pinterest.co.uk)
Perhaps not the most obvious, but definitely one of the best. Pinterest has something for every niche you’re into. If you’re not sure what it is, it essentially is a place where you can save your pins (links/photos/posts) all in one place. Other people do the same so you can look at their saves and search using keywords to find inspiration and ideas for whatever you’re looking for. Its a great alternative to the Facebook newsfeed if you like to have something to scroll first thing in the morning.
  2. Instagram (www.instagram.com)
Although I feel Instagram has taken the idea from Pinterest (what idea hasn’t Instagram acquired *cough Snapchat cough*) Instagram now has a great feature in which you can save a photograph you like, and put it into your ‘collection’. This can also be divided into subcategories so you can find it easily again. (I currently have a makeup folder, as well as poses & hair). To use this just find a photo you like, click on the little ribbon button to the right, click save to collection, and then you can either create a new folder (by pressing the plus sign) or select one that’s already there.
  3. The library
It may not be your first choice, but it can actually be a great place to start. Not only can it supply a lot of books specialising in your area, but it also gives you the right environment. I find it hard to zone out at home, but the library provides a quiet place with private workbenches, free wifi & electricity. (and it makes a nice change from noisy coffee shops). It can seem a bit overwhelming trying to work out which aisle you need for which books, but if you’re not sure don’t be afraid to ask. If it’s your first time, you can get a library card (which is free) & more often than not, you can borrow up to 20 books for 2 weeks. Don’t forget to take a letter that has your address on, and some form of ID to get a card.
  4. Google Images
I like to just type in something along the lines of ‘creative photography’ if I’m looking to be inspired. It’s important to remember you’re looking for inspiration, not trying to copy what someone else has done. I just typed exactly that, and one of the first images is of a photographer, using a puddle to take a unique wedding photograp. From this, it has given me the idea of using water and mirrors to create reflections, which can create a completely different perspective on a photograph. Maybe I’ll take a mirror to my next photo shoot?

Overall, it won’t take long before you have the next idea ready in your mind, and if you don’t, don’t beat yourself up about it. Just remember not to give up, a life creating is far better than a life procrastinating.
